While I work in corp team and may not know nitty gritties of disputes, I just have a different suggestion. Lot of courts don't have good talent and have people practicing basis more jugaad and strictly not by law. To that extent, considering the stuff you have already done and seem to be motivated, you can also consider sticking around and can create your own brand and clientele!

After 2-3 all nighters, I passed out and missed a negotiation call I was supposed to lead. People kept calling me but I slept through. When I got up and realised what had happened, I told the Partner and he advised me to take it easy and rest out.

Therefore, if this happened because you were genuinely sleep deprived, be honest and your seniors will understand but if this is one of those bouts of bratty behaviour, they won’t.

They all are good respectable faculty. 3-4 leaving is normal for any place. And glorifying one or two faculty of one or two subjects is stupid. New people will come in. They learn and grow. Faculty members are not elected representatives. Some may just want to teach. Some may be good in research. Some good at marketing themselves. Some good at all. Same like in law firms or any other job. Dont make it more than that.

This post is nothing but an agenda to malign people who are just doing their work. The institution went through a difficult last semester putting a lot of emotional burden on our teachers. Dont bully teachers.

On the question of government intervention, Karnataka is so much worse. They practically threatened to destroy NLSIU until the university had to finally give in and create horizontal reservation on the basis of domicile. This happened despite NLSIU initially proving their case in the High Court that they are immune from following state policy on reservation. At some point NLSIU finally realised that this is India where even when you win against the government, the government will still find newer and unscrupulous ways to bleed you to death.

Functional chairs take time. Anup was funded exhorbitantly by rs and so could build its team and grow gradually. Other centres apply for funding, it takes time. Research isnt one year two year work. Govt processes take time. Some people got advantage and are being appreciated as heros now. If you will see how they were hired, this whole post will become redundant. But time takes away stories. Just observe the kind of “perspectives” being shared and normalised: “The Case for Dalit Reparations”? Check. “Pax Brahminica”? Check. Nothing to do with actual academic research, of course. Pure instance of hate speech being openly and proudly done (and justified as social justice) in the national capital. The entire event was completely homogeneous and riddled with the hateful dichotomy of oppressor-oppressed. There was no actual diversity of thought. Events like these are motivated by reasons of ideology and partisanship while being disguised in the word salad of social justice. By the way, this is the same IITD which also has an Office of Diversity and Inclusion, another opaque and powerful body that has been recently created to further contribute towards balkanisation of the student society at the institute.

Now look at NLSIU where recently one of their teachers who is also doing their PhD tries to normalise and justify the real fact of discrimination as practised by the Indian state on the basis of caste as some kind of perverse justice through his so-called “moral reading” << https://www.nls.ac.in/news-events/faculty-seminar-presentations-by-sidharth-chauhan-and-rahul-hemrajani/ >>. With respect to explanations for democratic authority, the key idea is that electoral quotas incrementally contribute to ‘recognitional legitimacy’, a concept that transcends the immediate pursuit of political integration and the pragmatic accommodation of group differences.”

Please see through the abstraction of language and concepts here to observe the real argument: that India is not a nation of individual citizens with inalienable rights but a community of communities engaged in the process of bartering interests. Everything is relative. No inherent values exist that Indians share with each other. They are all mutual enemies of each other and tied in delicate balance. For the author, in the name of “recognitional legitimacy”, it is perfectly reasonable to discriminate against people by calling them and their forefathers oppressors! And, of course, what is “pragmatic accomodation” if not a happy declaration that not only is India not a nation but that the only way to govern it is by managing groups and communities in their respective ghetto-like existence.

And then we wonder why our institutions do not stand for our fundamental rights. How can they when they are already committed to an ideological project that is anti-individual and sees Indians as not a people but a bunch of groups who can only interact with other in a zero-sum game.

Hi. First and foremost, relax. Take a deep breath. Have a nice, cool glass of water. Don’t worry. You will have plenty of moments like these in your future as well. But you will also have nicer moments. Remember, this too shall pass. Now, since you mentioned your interest in both the law and in humanities, you may consider applying to BA (Hons.) at NLSIU. It is a new programme but it does appear to be well-designed. I think you will enjoy it and will surely develop new interests and capabilities. Give it a try. You can still do LLB (Hons.) afterwards at NLSIU (they have reserved 10% of the seats for their BA students). Alternately, you can also prepare for CUET-UG and try getting in a good social science programme in a university like DU. Feel free to reply to this comment in case you have any further doubts. I’d say do it. Being a first year as a 20 year olf is really not bad. Nobody cares literally. I didnt have faith in myself and didn’t take clat again, and that is single handedly the worst decision of my life. Take a year, do you best. 1 year is nothing in the larger scheme of things. T1 NLUs are absolutely worth it.

My advice:

1. Print this post and keep it in a sealed envelope, titled "Open again in 2040".

2. Do an MBA.

3. Become an investment banker or open a startup.

4. Become a millionaire. Buy a flat in NY, London or Dubai. Mary a supermodel.

I took a drop after 12th, was a PCM eat,I became super interested in subjects of law and humanities. Gave CLAT, fumbled it. Spent time on a whole wrong question set, made some silly mistakes, became nervous because I am shit as a student and as a human.

Couldn't get into my dream college. Wanted to be in Nliu or NALSAR so bad, wanted to experience a whole-ass college life at one of these. Now my rank is 200x. Most of the NLUs I am getting are tier 3, IPU, or some tier 2 which have EWS reservation. Man, I am so frustrated. No friends around in my city, most of them went to some third-grade—I mean, yes—colleges in Indore and Bhopal.Maybe I deserve this frustration. As my mocks were going, I imagined getting a rank around 1,000s. The idea of getting into whatever college I have and then rewriting this exam is crossing my mind again and again. Dear Beta, you seem totally unaware of the realities of our profession. In two months, my firm receives 10,000 applications for internships. I receive roughly half that in the same time period for Associateship. Many many of those who apply are bright and hardworking. The ones I recruit are serious and committed to their work and display zeal to work hard whenever required.

Hence, your assumption that the rest of your generation is “with you” is unfounded. In fact, your buddies must be telling you “ya bro, screw the overlords”, but in reality, they will be working like beasts and ensuring they secure their future. Don’t get left behind beta. With your attitude, you just might. All the best.

In my experience of how a tier 1 functions, working till very late 3-4 days a week should be acceptable upto PA level. One has to do billable work of at-least 40-50 hours per week. And I don’t mean inflated hours or hours involving only proof reading or research or coordination. But if counsels and junior partners themselves are staying back till very late (1 am and 3 am) and coming to office at noon or at lunch almost every day, then there is something very wrong with these teams. Unless these individuals are working on some newspaper deal, how are they justifying the billable hours to their clients? Are their clients paying for all the excessive partner/counsel hours?

Pick a hobby, make deeper connections at work, try not to do WFH (remember how people got burnt out during pandemic as WFH has no human interactions), plan your vacations in advance. Introspect if you’re really enjoying what you’re working on and if not, think about another area of law that really interests you.

At the time, I had multiple offers from Tier 1 firms as well as in-house roles. I took time to reflect and created a checklist of my priorities. Tier 1 firms offered significantly higher pay, including tax exemptions, with a difference of over ₹8 lakh. However, after reviewing my priorities for a week, I realized that my true calling was an in-house role at a startup. No matter what, life at a Tier 1 firm would remain intense—that's the nature of the job. If the nature of work at a Tier 1 firm isn’t aligned with your priorities, it’s worth considering a different workplace. One of the best things about a legal career is the flexibility to explore various roles—in-house, law firms, research organizations, and more. Therapy also played a significant role in helping me decide what was right for me.

I have interacted with many students from both the universities. I don't think some of them are receiving more 'quality education' than others. The quality of students was more or less similar. The only difference seemed to be that NLUD students appeared more informal and relaxed, while NLUJ students tended to be more formal and polite. However, I don't wish to generalise on the basis of that.

NDA revenue in 2023 was around 125 crores for a total head count of hardly 70. 2024 has seen massive hit on the revenues with the high performing teams exiting to a large extent (TMT and Employment). Even then it will still have 1.5-1.7 cr per fee earner which is quite great. It’s just that the distribution of revenue into the pockets of fee earners suck big time with NMD taking a chunk of it

KCO provides a lot of other facilities to its lawyers too - cab facility after 9 pm, free online doctor consultation, etc but I have never seen any of my colleagues availing these facilities

Although it hasn’t been more than a couple of years since I joined KCO but I sense a very different calming vibe here… there is a very good synergy between the firm and the lawyers- evident from the fact that lawyers aren’t using the services free for tgem

The college is doomed. The alumni that it boasts proudly are either self-made or has inherited the family offices. One CAM sr partner told me that - "even though the founding partner of this firm are from GLC, it is not the GLC that made them what they are but their own hardwork and background. You should have reconsidered your decision to join the institute."

This institute once held prestigious Palkhivala Tax Moot. But lost the trust to MNLU after its emergence. This institute once had participants from Oxford and Harvard for participation. But now limited to national colleges. It once had foreign student exchange. Now? When I type GLC into Google, first search comes of a Mercedes car.
