Kid. Change your mindset. Are you expecting definitive working hours in litigation? So client comes to you or your boss for urgent bail at 11 pm which has to be filed next morning. Do you propose to tell the client, dude I am too chill. This is not my working hours right now?

This urgency in the profession can't be changed. It is the need of the client who is stuck in a problem.

You think it's toxicity. It isn't. Its your mindset. If you dont understand what litigation is, better leave it.

See, this is something that the university should make provisions for. It cannot possibly be that expensive to arrange. The single-greatest perversion of the urban life in India begins in the mutual degradation of travelling in poor quality transit, private or public, not to mention the daily haggling with native dons in their auto-rickshaws.

I'm a I year student at a tier 3 NLU, where the condition of placements, without sugarcoating, is in dire condition. I still haven't completely abandoned hopes for corporate, though. The thing is, I'm completely clueless regarding internships as to how one is supposed to plan his/her internships. For some reasons, I wasn't able to do any internship in the first internship break after the first semester. Are people supposed to intern at courts first, before moving on to firms and others or something like that? I get no clues from my seniors. Some of my batchmates talk about applying for a firm with a stipend but I'm yet to understand why and how a first year would be accepted by a firm! Are centres such as the Centre for Communication Governance of NLUD or CCL or CEERA of NLS worth it? Where should I apply for an internship for the upcoming semester break (which will be my first internship) for May- June?

Guys only AS is leaving. Not others. They might go for fellowships or sabbaticals which is normal.

If AS wanted to really do something for students, he would have stayed. Else faculty just moves around to colleges seeking their benefits. Do something better with your life than making up news.

Join a think-tank only if you want to go down the policy/academia/higher education route. Good exposure and work culture but a lot of negatives as well (Oxbridge/Ivy/kids of bureaucrats cabal). Think tank pay is doable if you don't have a massive education Ioan or family to support, but don't have very high hopes of world-changing research. Please get into this with a clear plan of action and more importantly plan your next steps strategically, esp if middle class and not from generational wealth/social capital. Getting back to law firms after is going to entail pay and experience discounting. . You'll learn it's the same people everywhere, T1s or Vidhi. Good luck!

2. Yes, mine had Poonam Pradhan Saxena in it for instance. Not sure if she's involved at NLSIU in some visiting capacity at present though.

3. Not really, though I was asked questions from the subjects that I have taught.

4. Around 40 minutes.

5. It was fairly standard. Some of the questions didn't make any sense and it was clear that the people asking them didn't know much about the subject themselves. However, nobody was openly hostile or sarcastic or anything of the sort.

6. I was told that they would pay 7th CPC and some additional incentives for indexed publications, along with some contributory allowance for children's education.

Overall, I did expect the quality of the interview to be better, given the names involved. However, it was not bad considering my experience at some of the other NLUs.

Beware of mono-causal explanations! If a country the size of India is in a particular state, then it is because of a multitude of reasons. An ideology can be a hindrance but so can be the general incompetence with which its conclusions are translated into policy. Did India fail because its leaders believed wrongly or because they were not good enough to do anything regardless of what they believed in? That may be a more fruitful question to ponder.

Regarding your first paragraph, I agree with qualifications since it would be greatly surprising if anyone of any particular ideology can rationally disagree on, say, what constitutes good education and that teaching mathematics and logic in schools is part of such an education. I would also argue that a majority of reasonable disagreements are always over details/planning/execution and not over the essential consequence itself that is sought to be achieved.

Regarding your second paragraph, I will say that while it is certainly silly to always chalk up disagreements to reasons of ego, it is sillier still to ignore how petty and spiteful even the very best of persons can be when they realise they cannot agree with each other.

hi, 2nd year student here, from a tiny university, I mean no one knows the name, it's govt state kind of, so, and have mostly done 2 forum internships so far, and 2 3 online either research or writing based, etc. no publications as of such. I recently applied to a lot of internships, out of which I got selected in one for a law firm, not in my home town, and its in between regular months of college. Still, I applied since attendance is not really an issue in our college, and most classes are not even done properly. My concern is, is it a waste of time as a 2nd year law student, I have seen people applying to law firms from glc, and nlu's since 1st and 2nd year, I know 1st year is too young, but is it beneficial for me to do in 2nd year. I am also worried that in case I skip this, when I go to 3rd year in 6 months, I would have no good internships to actually apply elsewhere useful. (also I have lot of FOMO since non nlu, not good cllg) and had bad grades in the 1st sem, since took partial drop, and I am trying to do better and improve now
