That's the point most people miss. Why would someone with a good practice teach at Law School? People with passion will be the only ones teaching, and those will be extremely rare. That's why the rule came in the first place. Most people who write about Legal Education completely ignore why the rule was brought. (Talking of a paper I read in Asian Journal of Legal Education. Not a very good paper)

Please do anything to assuage their fears even if it means that you need to execute some sort of a legal contract. Set out the terms & conditions to their satisfaction but please GO! This is your chance at life. Educational Institutions matter, Alumni Matters, networking matters, PLEASE just go.

First, sit your parents down and talk to them properly. No shouting, no arguing—just make them listen. Start by telling them straight up, “I know you’re worried about me leaving, but I need you to hear me out before you decide anything.” Make sure they agree to actually listen.

Now, hit them with facts. Tell them exactly what’s at stake. A Tier 1 law school means top jobs at firms like CAM, SAM, AZB, where people start with salaries of 18-25 LPA. If you go to some random local college, you’ll be lucky to even make 3-5 LPA. That’s the difference. It’s not just about money—it’s about opportunities. If you ever want to study abroad, do an LLM at Harvard or Oxford, or even crack judiciary exams, your college matters. Judges, top litigators, law firm partners—almost all of them come from NLUs. If they make you stay back, they’re shutting the door on all of that.

Now, let’s talk about the real issue. Your parents aren’t worried about your education, they’re worried about what people will say. Relatives have fed them nonsense about girls going out and getting spoiled. You need to shut that down immediately. Tell them NLUs have gated campuses, strict hostel rules, curfews. This isn’t some party scene. You’ll be surrounded by India’s best law students, not random people with no ambition. Also, bring up examples of girls from your city or community who went to NLUs and are now successful. Show them proof that their fears are baseless.

If they still don’t get it, hit them where it hurts. “You were so proud when I got this rank. You know how hard I worked. And now, because of some relatives, you’re throwing it all away?” Remind them that you’re their daughter, not some random girl from a story. If they truly trust you, they should trust your decisions too.

If all else fails, get someone they respect to talk to them—a teacher, a lawyer, a family friend. Sometimes, parents listen more when the advice comes from an “experienced” person instead of their own kid.

And if they still refuse? Make it clear this isn’t over. Tell them you’ll take a gap year and try again next year rather than settle for a bad college. Tell them if they force you into this, you’ll never forget that they were the ones who ruined your career. They need to understand that this isn’t some small decision. This is your future. If they truly want the best for you, they need to stop listening to outsiders and start listening to you.

CAM competition team doesn't mind. Last year this investment lawyer jumped from NDA to cam competition.

But cam competition doesn't even come close to SAM, AZB & JSA. These firms also wouldn't mind if you're A1 coming from tax background but you need to perform extraordinary in your interview for them to give you A1 position in competition team. If you're looking for A0 position, you've nothing to worry.

apart from financing, clients want comfort for infra disputes - Anuja neither does project financing nor the disputes side of infra. Teams at Trilegal, JSA, SAM, DSK do the 360 degree infrastructure and energy practice i.e. M&A, development, financing, disputes; which makes it miles ahead of AZB.

I am preparing for interviews but making notes, especially seeing as to how vast everything is in the General Corporate area of practice please suggest some website or certain videos one can look up to brush up their knowledge before interviews. Please do not come at me by saying that I need to read up the law straight up, I know I do. It's just when someone does not have the time to go through them alongside work.

'Tech law' as an area of practice is very closely associated with public policy & comp sci. Good scholars in the field aren't necessarily going to have a traditional legal background, or be in NLUs.
As for AI - no one in India understands it (beyond IPR in AI), apart from maybe IITs. There is no Indian law on it yet. So frankly its a premature field in law. What you should consider is faculty teaching 'Regulatory Affairs'.

Do you think anyone really cares about who is VC of a particular place?

With a batch of 300 UG students, 200 PG and then another chunk of 3 years LLB Grads. What does this foreign degree holder VC want to make NLS? A factory of intellectually unemployed students? Why don't you tell us about placements at NLS post 2024 and tell us more about each courses. Just few thinking here and there and what is to take pride is CV of VC. He has to be a good admin and make students like you understand that degree has very less to do with competence of either being a Good Prof, Litigation Lawyer, Corp Lawyer or be it any other field.

The word "considering" could have been used for multiple reasons: maybe the person is thinking about the financial implications of moving to a new city if she gets the internship; maybe she is thinking whether this internship would be right for her/the judge would be the right one to apply to; maybe she is thinking whether she can balance it alongside her other commitments. Getting a judicial internship is not easy at all. Idk how people can even consider asking with so much confidence, about one specific judge.

Either he/she has a strong contact there, or is super overconfident. SC judicial internships are some of the bought sought after internships for anyone pursuing litigation/applying for LLM.

. They have built two seperate floors in which each of our families live. We pay seprate house tax. The only obstacle I currently face is the ownership bullshit. The ownership deed has listed both their names but there is no explicit statment indicating the percentage of ownership which each of them hold. Would I still qualify for the Karnataka ews category?

I know you would not really be all that intersted in helping some dumabss kid asking for legal advice but I would really appreciate it if you help me 🙏 this is my last resort as my father is very reluctant to consult an actual lawyer. When in doubt, go for that institute which you think (on balance of aforementioned criteria) is capable of providing a strong foundation for your career and one which you are least likely to regret joining. The above ranking, I think, satisfies that principle. Choice is yours. All the best.

Casually inform your disputes seniors that you’re being assigned corporate tasks and ask if they’d prefer you to stay focused on disputes—they may step in. Since disputes lawyers arrive later, use early hours for self-initiated legal research or drafting to appear engaged. If declining directly doesn’t work, say you’ll check if you can manage both but can’t promise a deadline, forcing corporate associates to reconsider. Additionally, leverage informal discussions with other disputes interns or associates for strategies on deflecting corporate work. If assignments persist despite your objections, subtly bring it up with a disputes senior, as they might intervene to keep you within your intended practice area.
