Dear JLGS,

I'm an alumni of the law school. For godsake, please get serious about your hiring and promotions policy. When Oishik Sircar, who has been a full professor for so many years at JGLS, joins Melbourne Law as Senior Lecturer (2 ranks below), and when Debolina Dutta (who has been an Associate Professor at JGLS) joins Melbourne as only a Postdoctoral Fellow, and when Ashrita Prasad Kotha, who was an Associate Professor at JGLS even before her PhD joins NLSIU as Assistant Professor after her PhD, you know that your promotion policies are a joke and way below international as well as national standards.

I love all of these people I just mentioned. They are great teachers and exceptional scholars. But your promotions of them, like ALL of your promotions, follow some weird logic. Look at NLS or NUS, with their rigorous benchmarks. You are doing nobody a favour with subpar policies, only embarrassing yourself.

I recently heard of a story where an Associate Professor of JGLS wanted to go for a PhD to a foreign institution and their prospective supervisor would be an assistant professor of the university. Do you see how ridiculous this is? We have become a joke in most circles.

Well I cannot really answer that since it’s for them to decide. If the profile was an issue then they probably shouldn’t have shortlisted it.

Regarding pedagogies, I do not think they are set in stone and they differ based on the subject and your audience.

I have never see any panel where only one person ask questions out of 10. It is highly unusual and create suspicion towards the process. Anyhow, I probably wouldn’t be joining even if get selected.

The peon who has stayed there for a decade or more is far more valuable regardless of the fact that he will tear or hide away your papers to make it look that you were fired for legitimate reasons. Then comes the you get junior with an ego issue who was hired a month ago and hence a senior regardless of the fact that you have close to or more than half a decade of experience. It's straight jacket path to screwing up your social and mental peace when someone says beta come join us, we will give you your documentation in writing in a month. I gave the exam this year. While preparing for the exam, I also solved the previous year question papers of 2023 and 2024, so I would say that the question paper of this year was easier compared to last year. But the questions were quite tricky, conceptual based and a good test to your overall legal GK. Questions like who appeared for Menaka Gandhi in the famous case came. If you have a good grasp of the subjects, then you should be able to clear it. Results usually take a month to come out and the interview has no fixed timeline as such as per my knowledge.

Scandals rocked NUJS during PIB reign, LI/Kian covered those extensively and in some instances exclusively. Due credit must be given to the SJA, which got hollowed out and suborned when NKC and Co took over. Now SJA is HMV.

Hello, while i understand the sentiment behind this post, i dont think anyone is particularly at fault here. First, its not easy to change examination schedule and you need vv grave reasons to change the schedule (which was clearly not in this case)

Secondly, while the exam may have been a factor for students to take the bus, its not uncommon for students to travel through private buses to attend fests. This has happened a lot of times before.

Third, the admin did take put official statement by registrar to the students. Sent a lot of counselling and support mail, infact additional counsellors were called upon the same day to support students mentally.

Fourthly, the memorial/condolescence meeting did take place today and an email came out for that too

This is ridiculous. You cannot correlate a CA with a horrific collision that no one could see coming. In no way could the admin have foreseen that refusing to re-schedule an exam (whose dates were announced well before Zelus) could cause the deaths of so many that are dear to us.

I understand that in grief, you are trying to find someone to blame. But no one is at fault here. This is a tragedy, plain and simple. It is not a result of mismanagement or your standard run-of-the-mill admin stubbornness.

There are a million decisions that led to this unfortunate event, and it is very easy to fall prey to this sort of thought. I implore you to remain focused on what's ahead and not what is done.

Regarding the memorial, an email was sent communicating that there was going to be a condolence address today, and the auditorium was packed with not just students but staff and faculty as well. Everyone knew the victims to some extent, and we have all been affected by it. Please do not let misdirected anger divide us in these trying times.
