Load of crap. Many IIT grads end up pursuing Masters at tier-2 and 3 public state universities in the US so the idea that they’re better than an MIT grad is ludicrous. Sure, exceptions may always exist but the academic rigour and research at any US university is incomparable to India. The real reason why these folks are employed is because (1) Indians are desperate to move abroad to the West and will bear any indignity to do so and (2) they offer cheaper labour to employers and tech is what generates value for an economy in today’s times. Lawyers leverage that value but they don’t actually create it and so they’re easier to replace across jurisdictions.

Why will they choose some random Nagarbhavi/Salt Lake/Kerwa educated lawyer over a Harvard/Yale educated lawyer? Heck, even a random T-14 law school imparts more merit than the law schools here 😭.

On the other hand, you will find virtually no difference a MIT and IIT grad, in fact sometimes the later grads take precedence. Merit matters. So only tech workers, likha bhi toh h.

my dear friend, moots are perhaps a big thing in the common law world. nobody gives a shit about moots in the civil law jurisdictions. NLUS are overrated (i mean overrated in India. the rest of the world has hardly heard about them) skilling schools for UG education. They dont do any serious research , which is what universities are measured on in the rest of the world. Their contribution to academic thinking and work is more or less zilch. Compared to the IITs/IIMs or the NITs the NLUs are a complete joke. This might be hard for the 18 something kids at NLUs to swallow because competing and winning with about 50k people makes them think that they are really smart.

A former SJA Prez had sent extensive documentation concerning the distance education scam to the then Chancellor/CJI, which subsequently led to critical discussions in the EC. The then Acting VC, Justice Talukdar and his allies had slowed down the inquiries directed by the EC.

Apparently the evidence collected/presented by the former SJA Prez was so strong that despite the best efforts of NKC and his allies, the EC had to unanimously agree the distance education courses were illegally conducted by NUJS and the inquiry needs to be done properly.

What really is the SJA doing? There was a time when dogged pursuit by SJA opened a can of worms involving financial chicanery of UGC funds running into crores and got the Cal HC to direct an inquiry by Justice (Retd) PN Sinha. Soon thereafter an unrelenting SJA despite change in leadership exposed other scams including distance education courses perpetrated by PIB and his Boys.

PIB got booted. Justice Talukdar and NKC killed off all the inquiries. Maybe the problem isn't the SJA but all of us who make up the GB. If the (s)elected few in the SJA prefer servility what about the silent majority or vocal minority?
