Be a professor. If you can become a prof in a top NLU then you will have to teach around 6-8 hours/week. Even if you need around 20 hours to prepare for those 6-8hours, the total working hours would be less than 30 hours/week. Throw in some miscellaneous work like research, consults, checking submissions, etc and it should go up to 40-45hours/week max and fully flexible.

Based on what I’ve seen in the past 1 year, I can safely say that the below are the approximate numbers for partners compensation who are not founders. All the figures below are pre-tax.

1. Fresh Salaried Junior Partner: 80L - 1.2 crores PA.

2. Salaried Partner with experience: 1.5 - 2.5 crores PA. (Yes, salaried partners working in teams with high volume deals make upwards of 2.5 crores)

3. Fresh equity partner: 3 crores (Minimum) upto 4.5 crores.

4. Senior Partners: 5 - 8 crores.

5. Practice Heads: 8-10 crores PA.

6. Rainmakers: 15 crores + (Remember that this bracket constitutes a minuscule percentage of lawyers)

I can say partner make anywhere from the range of 1 CR to 8 CR basis their senorita, you also have to understand the fact that even a sum of 100 cr is nothing for the legal kings and queens, work hard, gossip harder.

Please do not be discouraged in any manner if you are making mistakes,

Unfortunately, these mistakes and the guilt associated with it when we realise our mistakes are the meagre cost we pay for the valuable experience we gain on what is it that is not to be done the next time,

Over a period of time, you will have a truckload of wisdom on things that you know are not to be done (which you would have learnt through your experiences), and when you implement this wisdom day in and day out, your drafts will have all the right things it's supposed to have, enhancing it's quality automatically. You will be able to grow at twice the speed if you are also able to learn from the experience of others.

Please get out of this mindset that perfection is a destination you're supposed to reach. Real achievement is in improving yourself (even in the minutest of proportions) on a daily basis.

A right senior will guide you in understanding your mistakes and help you learn from them. He will never berate you or insult you for your shortcomings. I had a senior who was very tough on me and pulled me up for the smallest of my mistakes and made sure I learnt from them and never repeated it, while it did seem harsh then, he only wished the best for me which I realised later. Today when I'm extra careful and double check my work before sending it to anyone, all I have is gratitude for him. Because ignorance of smaller mistakes is the guaranteed highway to irreparable fuck-ups.

Make mistakes (not intentionally and carelessly) and please learn from them and never repeat the same one again. Make newer mistakes the next time. And if you've made a mistake, accept the responsibility for it (Just like Goldy Bhai does:))

There are many law firms and lawyers who don’t criticize for mistakes but instead teach these skills upfront - like proofreading, capitalization, numbering, formatting, logical thinking, common sense, work ethics and diligence. You should consider leaving the toxic environment and joining such firms or working with those kinds of lawyers.

I put all my eggs in 2-3 baskets, nothing worked out. As a non-NLU grad, I am finding it difficult to start again and apply to firms/policy orgs with personalized CV and sample work and follow-up persistently. Do you think I should give CLAT PG while somehow recovering from loop of procrastination or should I look towards competitive exams? What about start-ups such as SAMA, do you think it is better to explore such options while simultaneously preparing for competitive exams? Questions such as "What you are doing" are becoming difficult to face.

I write for a policy think tank in then HR section. I have been advised to choose one stream of research for my policy work in a think tank. It's between digital crisis i.e privacy, big data, surveillance, AI etc VS. environment crisis i.e water conflicts, waste disposal, e-waste management, air pollution etc.

Digital crisis is the new trend, so every tom, dick and harry are writting on it. Environment has been the trend for the last century, so every tom,dick and harry have written on it. Both are problems of the present and future.

To clarify; My master's was focused on digital rights, whereas my PhD was in ground water management. So I have experience in both topics. I enjoyed researching both. But now for a job I have to choose one.

As you can see, both are important issues, however both have a wide range of study and research. I can only choose one to write about for the next 4-5 years. Which should I choose ? How do I decide ?

The eligibility criteria says that one has to have 4 years of practice before the one-year training with AOR.

Very true. I have heard the worst of their projects team. Nobody in their right mind should be joining their team. If somebody has joined, they should ideally (for their physical and mental health), leave the offer.

However, IBC team is great. But comes with longer working hours. But still better than others

It's disturbing to see these lowly law firm coolies to be recommended for judgeship. No way some disputes lawyer would be able to do justice with the judgeship, they don't have the merit to become a judge. Hopefully government will reject his nomination. Chandrachud in order to further advance his son's practice has recommended way too many pathetic law firm coolies for judgeship. One has to see how many briefs have been forwarded towards Abhinav chandrachud by these law firms to secure such appointments. Such a sad state of affairs.

I recommend sending a brief message the day prior to the meeting. A simple “hi, look forward to meeting you tomorrow at 2 pm”, sets a positive tone for the meeting.

South Delhi flats are a mess. I’m past living like a bachelor, in a room barely 15 sq. m. I’ll save rent in Faridabad. I know that the commute will be a butch but hopefully the new Faridabad bypass will be a game changer. I think many senior advocates, partners travel from Gurgaon to DHC every day? Is their commute 1+ hour as well? How long of a commute are you okay with?

Just trying to do the math. I googled and saw that the average Zomato delivery boy earns 20K a month. So I guess the standard of living for a junior lawyer with that stipend will be similar to that of a Zomato delivery boy? I would calculate that as follows:

- living in a shared room in a PG or slum at Rs 11K a month, including price for gas and filtered water

- Rs 4K a month on bread, milk, vegetables and Parle G biscuits: maybe chicken/meat/fish once a month

- Rs 500 a month on bathing and toiletries (can bathe on alternate days to save costs)

- Rs 1,000 to 2,000 a month on transport, depending on location

- Rest on mobile bills, emergencies etc.
