It's clients who make T1s what they are.. they don't really have better lawyers, just lawyers with more experience, creating this vicious cycle.
Majority of the times there is repetition of facts and numerous IAs (which also have factual repetition). There's also evidence as annexures which runs into multiple pages but can be analyzed fairly quickly.
I feel lost and donโt know how to gather my thoughts while reading a document sometimes.
I see the number of pages go up to 400 and end up using Chat GPT. Which obviously lowers the quality of the doc drafted.
As in imagine yourself reading a term sheet or drafting further pleadings based upon previous proceedings in case of dispute. If the documents are too lengthy how do you keep yourself from feeling less exhausted by just looking at the length of the documents. I tend to lose motivation and take days to complete that simple which is not feasible.
You should not buy a car for others to look at. You would get bored of that car too soon. Buy a car that you are absolutely obsessed with even if it is a pink beetle. You would keep it and maintain it forever and not care about others.
Take a long time reading it, get all the documents such as 10th and 12th marksheet, affidavit, proof of residence if you are not from Delhi
Go to the Siri Fort office enrolment section. Try to go when its not so busy.
They will tell you the various corrections with your forms. You can correct them on spot if possible otherwise come back second half
It is a somewhat tiring process like dealing with most government offices
In the end your form will be accepted and 750/- is due in that office itself
Take your proof of payment and wait to be called to a meeting
Once you submit the form and pay the fee of โน750, you will receive a message within a week about scheduling a verification meeting. After the meeting, youโll receive your provisional certificate within 2-3 days.
The only thing that I feel I did different was that I kept networking like a mad bull for many months. Networking was the key for me.
I hope you get there too. Wishing you luck!
P.S. Remind me again why Tushar Mehta and Menaka Guruswamy are in the courtoom???
Yes I will be working before applying. I have everything else, probably a strong CV! Just the marks :/
That too, I am close and also 1st Ranker.
3 year programs won't let us score marks. :(
Same is the situation with me! I have about 9 internships, publications, and social service. I will also be working before I apply.
Just the marks bracket is acting as a barrier.
Will applying with the help of any agency make a difference?
I find it shocking that such smart people after landing in a law firm come to accept this system as the truth and donโt question it that often.
So, how does one answer them?
What is so really wrong with law firms? People who have never been in one โ the outsiders often fail to understand it. Swanky offices, excellent salary, a flex that you feel after you say that you work at tier 1 or with some of the most recognisable clients (know that itโs probably people in the legal circle who understand the flex about tier-1s). You have everything you need then right?
The reality of working in law firms is a bit different. To start with, your bosses (and clients) inspire and speed up work by repeatedly projecting a sense of urgency or rather immediacy of any and every deliverable. This is a highly unprofessional and unplanned way of working. For people who are immediately responsible for executing the work โ the associates, this is a constant source of worry. See, ultimately, the work gets done โ but people in higher positions often like to believe that getting work done is not possible without a little intimidation and jump scares. Sometimes the sense of urgency and deadlines is communicated rather politely, but in a way that leaves a little scope for negotiation โ with those involved in the execution of the work having no way of planning their day or life. At best, you can offset one work stream by saying that you are over-stretched in five others that you are handling. But in most cases, over-stretched you will be.
Probably it is the reason why law firms are efficient. In any top team at a law firm, missing a deadline communicated to a client is as rare as seeing a real unicorn. Even if the deadline may be inherently unreasonable or even if associates have to spend 22 hours a day.
True, there are times when clients are unreasonable. And there is a systemic problem that lawyers as service providers are never able to professionally demand decent working conditions. Itโs true that some clientโs are fickle and will take asking for more time as an affront and probably take their business elsewhere. But some clients are reasonable โ if explained why something will take longer. They may agree to split the work โ so you might still have to give something on the deadline, but it will be lower pressure deliverable overall. Also, you would have set expectations with them for the future. It is a risk โ but partners who can risk to do such things โ should do it. Many wonโt โ a lot of partners take pride in projecting an image of invincibility โ and frankly that is an attribute that people want to feel in their lawyers โ even if behind this faรงade everything is crumbling. So there are no easy solutions here for those doing the grunt work.
Also, yes, there are periods when work is tough โ client is demanding and there is a lot of uncertainty. But if that becomes the case all the time, then itโs a system issue โ a feature and not a bug of law firm as a workplace.
The other problem is that law firms have little to no avenues of rest and recovery. Even armies have R&R programs. Not law firms. Talk to a busy law firm associate โ and you will see a helplessness in their eyes about the often endless stream of work. There are times when work is less โ but because, work can come in anytime and there is hardly any planning in law firms on how to process an incoming assignment and little attempt to give certainty to anyone. In fact these โdownโ periods turn into periods of greater anxiety โ and you can never plan a leave around them. That said, some partners do have ways of delegating work that is efficient and ensures โoptimal utilisationโ. But as there is no โsystemโ โ things can fall apart very quickly when multiple work streams come in. And there is of course no concept of โrefusingโ work to clients โ when there is no capacity โ the quality of work, and life of associates be damned. Also, some teams do have holiday rosters and an unspoken rule to not disturb those on leave. But these are team specific things โ when in fact they should be enforced at highest levels of the firm and applied equally to everyone.
A final problem is law firms donโt know how to communicate things internally. Exhortations (even firm wide) to work harder are not uncommon. They feel like impositions โ particularly to those who are actually pulling their weight. Try reading your firmโs internal employee well being policies at times (like the leave policy with 40 days of leave). For one โ everything in these policies is โsubject to work exigenciesโ โ which is astonishing. Itโs like every resource in a law firm is so unique and irreplaceable, that if needed, they and only they can execute. Shouldnโt the policy say something like โ if you have a planned leave โ make sure that you assign your matters to someone else and communicate this internally and externally. If every employee benefit is subject to โexigenciesโ โ then whatโs even the point of these policies. And most partners have little say in how their firm manages employee benefits.
Law firms become undesirable places to work after a while because they donโt solve some very fundamental things that make a workplace sustainable โ a desire to solve for certainty and visibility of workflows, better client expectation management and real and effective R&R programs. These are very basic things. And frankly without itโs unclear if they will ever be able to solve such issues. To all the 'incoming associates' โ buckle up, this is what you are in for.
Junior associates get paid around 60-70k. Associates get paid around 1 lakh.
Before accepting offer - always ask and clarify.
And what is this concept of junior associate in jsa .Do they initially recruitment every fresher as junior associate?

Absolutely condemnable and unfortunate that the CJI denied the plea not to livestream the case. It is shocking that people in Bengal are demanding justice on the one hand and not coming on the streets to protest against this. I came across this video where students are shouting "Kapil Sibal chhoto lok". It means Kapil Sibal is a neech aadmi (chhoto means small and lok means person in Bengali). Both BJP and Left people are doing this.

What do you have to say now?? Some anonymous 18-year old Wikipedia mods are above the law just because they are woke??
Hereโs a list of my mistakes:
1. 1] I did a 3-year LLB.
2. 2] I want to get into corporate law because i canโt afford to pursue litigation.
3. 3] Only published 2 papers that also in some random publication and not related to corporate law.
4. 4] I have 6 months of full-time internship experience in a law firm working in BFSI, but I made the mistake of leaving that job (I had my reasons, but I wonโt elaborate here).
5] Have bad CGPA
what are my solution over here?
1] Iโve decided to publish 6 more research papers or blogs. Where should I publish them?
5. 2] Iโm intending to take the IBPS SO exam since my CGPA has disqualified me from many other government exams.
3] Should I take a Lawsikho course? Iโve read on other LI chats that they help improve your skill set. However, I donโt have the money right now, so I would first need to find a job to afford it.
I posted before on LI that Wikipedia IS subject to Indian law, applying elementary principles of territorial jurisdiction that have been recognised in hundreds of IP cases (active targeting of users in India). โฎโฎโฎ
