OP here - honestly this is public information, easily accessible through platforms like LinkedIn or via connections with those who have interned at these firms. While it is true that access to such details might be more streamlined for students from certain law schools, I believe that as a community, we can work to reduce this information gap. Also, at the end of the day, its not like these HRs cut any slack for law students (personal experience).

Can you suggest a better criteria, no law college in India produces good research, quality of professors across colleges is trash, except the few good ones, placements is a very fair criteria, it basically indicates that if you perform decently well for four years, you'll atleast get a job which is not the case with other NLUs/ lawschools where firms don't even come to see the talent, so door of opportunities is shut!!

They don't have vacancies in dec, you can definitely mail the HR for Feb/March. You'll get a reply id you've drafted your cv well and aligned ur CV properly, their HR is very agile and active recently, but if you still don't get a reply, consider getting more internships/experience in your field

Lol, how exactly is it better when HNLU has a class of 180 and placed just 37 while NLUD places some 41 out of a batch of 80? There's not even an iota of comparison. Even the batch topper of HNLU would any day trade his place for a seat at NLUD. But you're right, I would suggest all aspirants and NIRF to kindly choose HNLU over NLUD henceforth.

HNLU recently released their 2024 placements:

It’s unfair how people with the right family connections get SA status quicker than others. You all must have read Dushyant Dave’s recent article criticising how Vrinda Grover was overlooked for SA status. It so happens that Vrinda Grover’s father, PP Grover, was a criminal lawyer, but he practised at the trial courts and did not have SA status. Neither did he have a foreign degree and study in England like the old elite. Also, though he was a defence lawyer, his clients were usually those shunned and condemned by society, rather than the rich and powerful. On the other hand, Menaka G is from a blue-blooded family whose background is known to all.

If the argument being made is that Menaka G is an NLSIU/Rhodes/Harvard alum + TIME 100 honouree, then Vrinda Grover is a St Stephen’s/NYU alum + honorary PhD from SOAS + TIME 100 honouree before Menaka G.

It’s not about whether this would bias the CJI or not. The CJI or any judge is not prohibited from having regular normal friends- and he can conflict out of cases when they involve those friends. And this is not being cordial or collegial or civil- inviting someone to worship with you at your house with your family indicates an intimacy between the head of the executive and the head of the judiciary that should make all citizens deeply uncomfortable.

It’s bad form for the CJI or any judge to curry favour with the ruling government in this way. It’s so obvious in its fecklessness I can hardly believe this really happened. I haven’t heard of such a thing happening in the past ever or in any other developed country. I don’t know how anyone thought this was a good idea and how he isn’t ashamed to have done this.

Is it any wonder that there’s so much corruption in the country and no one takes the CJIs sermons seriously when he himself behaves this way ? If this isn’t a crisis of legitimacy I don’t know what is.

While I understand that some people take it too far in expecting judges to only be antagonistic or aloof while engaging with the Government, it feels a bit weird to on one hand write judgements talking about how the government is actually violating fundamental rights or being discriminatory or whatever else, and there are some pretty egregious cases with this government, and then also filming a video celebrating a religious festival together with the PM. I'm sure it was well-intentioned and there is a distinction between personal and professional capacities but it still conveys a closeness that perhaps shouldn't be publicised even if it does exist. This is the same guy who claims to not really read what's written on social media or engage with the news cycle very much for fears of bias but inviting the head of the state as a guest somehow is okay and there is 0 chance of bias? Regardless of the soundness of reasoning in whatever few judgements he will author going forward, if it ends up being pro-government, people will suspect other factors being involved (as they already do).

Hiring is not an exact science. Very demand-supply dependant. The fact that some intern got hired or did not, beyond a point, is about right place right time. This is not to say that the person hired is less talented; everyone who gets in is definitely talented. In sight = in mind.

Eg - stellar intern but no vacancy - versus good intern, lets along with others, has the partner's eye, and who was in the team when a vacancy popped up. Latter more likely to be hired.

You are given only 1 batch to teach, so 6 hours in a week. Ideally you're supposed to be here from 9-5 but hardly any faculty punches in or out, so you take class, attend faculty meetings and leave. You have a message that serves OKish food (relatively healthy, but tasty for 30 & 50).

But because of trimester system, you'll be on your toes for 3 months. Can't miss a single class and classes mostly cannot be rescheduled. You might be frustrated with students when they don't read and come to class, but pleased when they do. However, don't expect others to show empathy towards students, even if you do.

I am in the first semester of my LLM at NLIU. I like the faculty and facilities provided here. I feel I'm at peace with the intellectual discourse here. It's not too tough or too easy, just enough to keep me interested and not be a burden. So, Should I try and pursue a PhD here just based on the fact that I am enjoying the university environment. Or should I try & aim higher and apply to top 3-4 NLUs next year ? Especially knowing that I would need to really push myself to get into those NLUs.

4 corporate partners in Bangalore and in one common team. Srinath leads corporate practice and is head of Bangalore office. Strong office with long standing partners. Really high quality work and clients, mostly M&A, VC and PE transactions. Most hiring is through PPO after two internships or lateral, so difficult to get into.

When is the right time to consider an alternative career path? I am in my final year and have devoted more than two years to Competition Law, but I haven't been able to secure any recruitment opportunities in this field. I am passionate about this practice area, but the lack of job opportunities is extremely demotivating, and I doubt whether all my experiences in Competition Law will benefit me for recruitment purposes. I had saved and invested a sizeable sum at the end of covid. Post covid, I ended up going back to work and the uncontrollable expenses caught up. Car, fancy house, devices, vacations et al

A breakup and sabbatical later, feel that was so stupid. I could have had strong liquidity in savings had I just not touched any of my investments at the end of 2022. It’s heartbreaking - that was enough to be free and not work for money.

Whoever is reading this, don’t touch your savings till they are enough to make you not earn for money. And after you reach that point - still don’t touch - the purpose of it is comfort: just forget about it.
