When Rajkumar set up JGLS, he got good NLU alumni faculty because there was no alternative to JGLS, i.e. NLUs were filled with corrupt and mediocre VCs who deliberately shunted out alumni and others with good qualifications from teaching (case in point: Ishwar Bhat of NUJS). Sudhir has changed that culture by recruiting NLU alumni en masse, while BITS and NLU are doing the same: all 3 in better locations. If NALSAR and NLUD get good VCs and management, you will see JGLS faculty leave for NALSAR and NLUD as well.

Agree 100%. One has to be really foolish to choose some obscure location like Sonepat (in Haryana) over Bangalore, Mumbai, Delhi, and even Chennai. Sonepat is Haryana, Sonepat is NOT Delhi. Haryana has a 'reputation' it cannot shake off. A lesser-known fact - if one has an HR-registered car in Bangalore, 99% of the time it will be checked by traffic police for thuggery and drunk driving. They pick on HR-registered vehicles for special treatment.

Your academic headbanging is of no use. But I don't expect ivory towers to engage with the practical realities of law. Even at NLS, I have found the practicing professors with real life work experience in courts and corporate firms to be more competent and superior in knowledge than these so called academic lawyers. The academic lawyers don't prepare students for the real world, they don't teach us the hard realities of this profession, not are they sympathetic to the voices and concerns of students from lower income groups who want to learn the ropes of hardcore law to ekk out a living. Academic lawyers speak from a place of privilege and can afford to revel in legal philosophy and humanities. The 'keyword' here is afford. But also not everyone find these courses interesting or even useful. I couldn't care less about the intersection of law with academic philosophy; it's of no consequence to real world law. Real world law requires hard skills. It requires clinical education, more space and time for internships. You can keep cheering on but I will mourn the loss of real life law and legal study. What good is a legal education if it cannot teach you the nuts and bolts of advocacy or if it cannot help you gain an in depth understanding of business side of law (as in the case of corporate law). I don't speak for the entire community at NLS but I do know for sure that a lot of us don't care about academic 'headbanging'. It's of no consequence to our careers. Yes those count towards you getting your BA degree. I don’t know any university in the world that would give you a BA without you taking BA courses. If you didn’t want to study arts courses why not do a BSc or BCom and then do a three year degree ? Why do you feel so injured ? Did you not look at brochures for the program before you applied ? I’m honestly puzzled by people complain about all of this. Visiting faculty only teach elective courses- they teach what they’re interested in and the students that share those interests are taking those courses.

If you’re not interested - don’t take the electives. If you want more corp law electives - reach out to people and get them to offer them ? Why insist that the entire university be remade in your image ?

Imagine yourself as a partner, you need to constantly pull in clients and maintain good relationships with existing clients, not everything is work-based, Most of the work you do as a lawyer for your client can be done by another lawyer, it is just that you have maintained a relationship with them (Good work being a non-negotiable part of it) Now things like giving internship to client's kid or someone's kid who can be a potential client or kids of their connections. All of this is just extending your network, Getting leverage over someone who can benefit you in the future. It does not stop with internships, A lot of PPOs, and DayZ Recruitments also happen as a favor to someone. Can you change it, No.

Hyderabad has a deeply ingrained socio-cultural-economic bias against law firms that demand top-tier fees. Consequently, these firms are usually relegated to tax and land due diligence work, with a sprinkle of NCLT matters at best. The reality is, professionals in these regional setups quickly lose interest and leverage the firm’s network to launch more lucrative independent practices. The only way to break this long-standing cycle is to level the playing field—treat Hyderabad’s fee earners as equals, invest in their capabilities by involving them in specialized practices like white-collar crime or competition law, and then back them aggressively in developing new practice areas.

Hardly 10-15 get placed in T1 firms and all of them are from 5 year batch those who have good amount of internship experience. 3 year course students rarely get placed in elite firms. College lacks in imparting quality education. Most of the professors are least caring and give no shit about providing mentorship to students. The college infrastructure is a major disappointment. GLC is only surviving on it's brand name and rich alumni base which i think will fade away with time if they don't make any efforts. The whole college reeks of piss.

Some of my friends at tier 3 NLUs managed to get jobs. It was an NLU where there was no VC and no registrar for about an year. Internships, contacts and hardwork helped them. Try to get assessment internships and PPOs. If not, even a training internship of six months. Many times, the salary of tier 3 NLU grads in tier 1 firms is less than tier 1 NLU grads. But ultimately, in 2-3 years, they catch up.
