Law Schools can be stifling, stultifying and discouraging at times. People look down upon the ‘other’; sometimes very disparagingly. A mooter thinks mooting is ‘the’ thing. The cool guy thinks that ‘mooting’ is for nerds etc etc.

I believe we should respect choices. Here is a simple piece on that belief.

The many DREAMS In A Law School: Nothing BIG Or SMALL About It

In law school many people live,

People of many colours.

Colourful dreams they do have,

Dreams of many flavours.

Look! There is the GPA chap!

His wish is to be the class’s cream.

Don’t look down upon him. Clap.

Because he does have a dream.

There is the big mooter, supreme:

Vienna, Jessup and places alike,

In his dreams do they chime.

You’ll go places, I know…

But I hope, you won’t chide,

These places he wants to go.

This is the sportsman, all pumped

With all skills his body does,

Look at the sweat and the pumping blood…

Berating him ‘an unserious student’ would be lame

Because he too is a student of the game.

There is the portly rotund guy:

He eats, drinks and gets high

And plays video games all night.

Ah! He is happy in his eye…

Then why do you have this in your mind

That he is a loser in his life?

We all have dreams, dreams big,

Have your dream; a thing to achieve.

Never think that your dream is bigger…

Bigger than, others conceive.

Because dreams like love, like ethics

Cannot be ever relative;

They can only be; dreams,

Keeping the man up from his deathly sleep;

Nothing big or small about it.

This is your best poem (maybe some other poems are better technically etc.) .... But in terms of the content, this one rocks. I just loved the message you are conveying. Unfortunately, lawschoolites don't realize this till very late (and sometimes, never).

Thanks a ton no. 3. I am happy that a good message got conveyed. Personally, I think the Dasamar poem was a wee bit better in terms of message...and otherwiese...but I shouldn't really discriminate. :)

I liked the poem a lot...very nice...but the comment about the religious text is actually "Let noble thoughts come to us from every side" from the Rig Veda!

DB7- HS17...thank you for the comment. I think my religious quote meant the same as yours...to quote from Rohan, the intern poem

Every class had a different mark...
Trademark...he noted it religiously in a copy.
“Every religion is just the same
A bundle of thoughts, a different name...”
Ah! The musings! Were troubling him again.

:)

Hey its really true about the Law schools, wat the poem talk bout is a reality... Mr Poet really thanx for ur highly observant poem. We see ppl here who look down at u wen ur dreams don't match with theirs, but i guess the thing we learn here in law school "Ignore ur Criticism without any banging reply", is not dat so useless... The life outside our school is no different from inside so its gud that we r learning a lot of stuff here only....(correct me if m wrong)

10, I earlier thought that erm...hits don't lie. But now I believe they can sometimes lie. So am not too worried about hits now.

Links can burn in hell...I don't care.

Dreams and Goals..
Another good article.. Keep going..
Special mention to the last paragraph which added the extra bit of poetic sense into the whole 'article'.

Great poem....liked it more than the Das Amar chand mangal one for its potrayal of reality and underlying message!!
You really hit the nail on the head (ref. to all those superiority complex prejudiced mooters/toppers/sportsmen/boozers who think the other 3 categories are losers )
