Amarchand’s Kolkata head has quit the firm to pursue interests outside the law.

Krishnava Dutt was the only partner based in Amarchand & Mangaldas & Suresh A Shroff & Co’s Kolkata office of more than 20 lawyers.

The firm will relocate Delhi corporate partner Kalpataru Tripathy to fill his space and lead the office.

Amarchand co-managing partner Cyril Shroff (pictured) told Legally India that the terms of Dutt’s departure were amicable.

He added: “[Tripathy] will join from our Delhi office and he’s a very experienced corporate lawyer.”

Dutt was an Amarchand partner for around three years, having been with the firm for a total of seven.

Sources said that Dutt is planning to join his brother’s non-law related business.

Dutt’s replacement Tripathy is homegrown Amarchand talent and has been a Delhi-partner in Delhi for over two years.

Dutt declined to comment.

Amarchand hired two Mumbai lateral partners last month from local rivals: Luthra & Luthra corporate partner Ashish Jejurkar and Mulla & Mulla & Blunt & Caroe infrastructure partner Tushar Mavani.
