Chandhiok & Associates becomes Chandhiok & Mahajan, gets first 3 non-founding partners

Chandhiok & Associates has rebranded to Chandhiok & Mahajan and has also promoted associates to partners, after first starting four years ago as a sole proprietorship.

Karan Chandhiok, who founded the erstwhile Chandhiok & Associates after exiting Luthra & Luthra with a team of two associates from that firm, said that Pooja Mahajan was associated with Chandhiok & Associates first as a consultant and eventually as a partner since 2016.

Mahajan was formerly with Amarchand Mangaldas after which she was teaching at NUJS Kolkata as well as consulting.

When she entered into partnership with Chandhiok she took over the designation of managing partner, Chandhiok said.

Chandhiok and Mahajan were the only two partners in the firm until yesterday when it promoted its associates and Delhi University 2010 alumni Kalyani Singh and Vikram Sobti to partnership and also added recently promoted Shardul Amarchand Mangaldas principal associate Kaushalya Venkatraman as partner.

“Importantly, we have an equal number of female and male fee earners; and this equal partnership is reflected in its new name,” the release added.

Sobti was one of the four associates who left Luthra with Chandhiok to start up the firm in February 2014, while Kalyani is also a former Luthra associate who joined Chandhiok in September 2015.

Venkatraman is an NLSIU Bangalore 2008 alumnus.

Chandhiok & Associates now has 5 partners including 2 equity partners. It has 28 lawyers.

Are partners related to each other? In any case, this firm is doing great and delivers best quality work in its chosen areas. It is a 'watch out' firm!

I’ve worked with Karan when at LnL. What a brilliant lawyer, such a thorough professional, and so polite and courteous as a person. I really like the new logo - very neat and non pretentious.

Hardly see them around on any deals. Back office for a certain senior counsel is the home truth.

Trolls, trolls everywhere! One of them may be related to a senior counsel but they are doing well on their own right. I don't know them personally but trust me, everyone in the market feels that they have a bright future ahead of them.

Perhaps because they do a lot many "matters", but not "deals" :)

Why have you not uploaded by comments?! Just because it was positive and not the typical negative sh** that your site is noted for?! And please don't tell me that 'it got lost'. It can't happen everytime.

Hi, thanks so much for checking in and apologies for the lack of updates. Yes, all fine, but needed to take a week off for Independence Day, which coincided with Prachi being sick, and there weren't any immediately pressing stories. Back to schedule this week, promise!

No new story in 10 days!

'Kian moves to Bar and Bench!' say sources within LI. My source is as reliable as LI's sources! Let the (usual) bitching begin.
