The court's decision in the Times Now case is absolutely disgusting. If someone defames me, the court will take 10 years to decide and give me Rs 100 in damages. Why different rules for a judge? And why is the court quiet in the Dinakaran case, KGB case etc?

High time the media got its act together. In the race to be 'sabse tez', standards of reporting and accuracy have touched a new low. Several cover page articles in leading newspapers/magazines alleging nepotism/corruption often state incorrect names, which sometimes turn out to be other (unintended) real people. Hopefully, this would ensure at least some level of duty of care.

Interesting to read Mr Shubhankar Dam's article. But unlike NLSIU and NALSAR a queer club will be a huge flop at NUJS because the people there are usually one-dimensional and very orthodox in general (e.g. no aim beyond working for AMSS). There are many reasons why this is the case, but would first invite comments from students.

I hope you see the irony of your post. Orthodoxy i guess would be clubbing an entire student body as "one dimensional and very orthodox.."
Well, I sincerely think it is a positive move by the student body, if they do manage to create an atmosphere where one is free to talk about or be what they are, it would be an unprecedented breakthrough for any institution in this country.

ok, but had Shubhankar Dam declared himself gay in NUJS he would have been mocked by 99% of the students. He says that himself. There is a culture in the college that encourages conformity. Forget LGBT issues, look at general attitudes towards life, career etc. The possible reason is that the college is dominated by middle class students from conservative homes in North India, which has a very regressive culture. Also, Kolkata is generally a conservative place and the least westernised of the big cities, barring a small elite.

I can take a lot of criticism on NUJS and agree that they are warranted. But you cannot accuse it of being conformist. (i) Which other college has a more relaxed curfews? (ii) which other college permits you to walk into class in whatever you are wearing at night? (iii)in which other college do you hear a vc say, drink if you want, but dont disturb others, (iv) as for amarchand, nujs has more start ups than all other NLUs put together.

NUJS has easily the most liberal culture amongst all national law schools. The fact that NUJS is having open and frequent talks on such subjects is a testimony to that.

NALSAR prolly would qualify as the most disciplinarian, orthodox and run-by-hitler institution where people are bored because (to use polite terms) they've been jailed in a village.

The comments speak how jealous NALSARats are of NUJS, of the awesome salt lake city, the liberal enriching Kolkata culture, the entrepreneurial thinking, the awesome noojie fests and the awesome lives they live and the awesome jobs they get.

For NALSARats; its a sad future in an arid, rural land. Poor rats. Keep squealing!
