Kingfisher with Agarwal Law, Manu Singhvi loses in SC appeal to UBI, advised by Verus, Rohatgi

Kingfisher Airlines, advised by Agarwal Law Associates, lost in the Supreme Court yesterday after its special leave petition against last week’s Calcutta high court order, as reported by Legally India, was dismissed in the beleaguered operator’s wilful default battle with the United Bank of India (UBI). UBI was advised by Verus Advocates.

Kingfisher, represented in court by senior advocates Abhishek Manu Singhvi and Parag Tripathi instructed by Agarwal partner Mahesh Agarwal, had sought urgent relief against the Calcutta HC order, which had disallowed its request to use legal representation in UBI’s wilful default proceedings against it.

But since UBI yesterday also held a committee meeting, which Kingfisher did not attend and which declared Kingfisher and its directors as wilful defaulters, the Supreme Court ruled that Kingfisher’s petition was infructuous in light of the committee’s decision, as reported by the Indian Express and others.

Verus partners Krishnayan Sen and Rishad Chowdhury and associate Namrata Apte had instructed attorney general of India Mukul Rohatgi and senior advocate Dhruv Mehta for UBI.

surprised to know Senior Advocates were "instructed" by these two law firms.

I think Seniors were "briefed" not "instructed".

Take out any Court Order, it mentions the name of the Sr. Adv (or the Counsel) and then 'i/b' i.e., instructed by - the name of the briefing advocate (or the solicitor). Please apologies to Kian.

And plural of Counsel is Counsel and not Counsels. Apologize for that too!

Looks like every other person/ company thinks that they can just simply go to a higher authority. Merit or no merit, let’s just go higher and see if can get a favorable decision. Good for Lawyers I say :-)

Thanks to the person who pointed out the repetition in the first paragraph, that's been corrected and noted.
