THE FIFTH YEARS ARE LEAVING

The fifth years are leaving:

The mooters are leaving, the debaters are leaving,

Their trophies, proudly in the library sit,

Smiling at the newer faces.

The researchers are leaving, the writers are leaving.

Their books and papers in the glass cupboard

Tell us of the words they wrote…

Their words tell us of the lives they lived.

The cricketers are leaving, the footballers are leaving.

That hundred is remembered, that goal is remembered.

That ovation is remembered…

An ovation they will always receive.

An LPO owner will get cracking at his work,

Associates at Amarchand will descend to various cities,

Clerks in the Supreme Court will all start anew…

They all did their jobs brilliantly.

Boyfriends are leaving, girlfriends are leaving.

Some together (would-be husband and wives),

Some broken! Ah! An exile…

Their kisses are leaving; the affection still has after effects.

Trying to capture five years

In a measly, mawkish, FB statuses…

Boys are crying, coz they are leaving

Five years of memories, in a building, six storied.

A flight is cancelled,

“I’ll go a day later”

Girls are leaving; days are fleeting…

Fifth years are leaving.

Ya dude. I never understood this bit of ronaa-dhona. Agreed, when leaving the college emotions may spill over ... but even after a year, some people behave like they are experiencing Post Traumatic Stress Disorder or put up senti status messages !!!

@ Ermm...the spirit of my poem actually is opposite of what you are saying...I am trying to say that 'rona dhona' is natural...after all 5 years in a place...you are bound to be attached!

Anyway, thank you for your comment

Nicely done Poet.

I'm a week and a half away from seeing the last of my days in college, but i haven't really gotten attached to it any profound manner whatsoever. Pity really! I came here with high hopes, i walk away with so many disappointments.

Tsk.

Ha ha ha! fairly well written.. From the N-schools to the Government colleges, the emtions are mirrored. Ask not what your college did for you, but what you did for it ;)
Yes emotions there are...
as for the poem I cant relate to the mooting bit, M not much of a mooter, but yeah I found my boyfriend at law school for sure, n m pretty sure he's for keeps! :)

Dear poet, I understand your poem illustrates the emotions, and such a spill-over is bound to happen after 5 years
However, I was reflecting on the issue from another perspective and the title of your post was what inspired the comment … despite all the good things, 5 years still leave crying. I am not the least amazed by the crying during farewell / last days since that is natural … what amazes me is that even after a year or more, some people appear to be traumatized (as opposed to being nostalgic) when they think of life at lawschool. I am amazed by that and hence I thought I would present this thought to everyone :)

The poem is bang on the point and illustrates one of the aspects of lawschool life. Keep blogging ... keep rocking.

@12, my poem is about nostalgia (thatz the word). about people being traumatized by law schools, law firms et al...that is a universal phenomenon...nothing amazing to be amazed about :)

thanks a ton for your encouragement.

I remember a 5th year being pulled out of the train by this friends after he was set to go. The next day was spent in partying :)

It's gets super-emotional sometimes,
And yes, I've seen 5th years crying.

You have spent 5 years of your average 65 year old life with these people,no need of such drama! MOVE ON!Seriously in my 5 years of law school,I got so bored meeting the same people again and again!!!!!The world closed on me and I failed to interact with normal people and non lawyers!MOVE ON
