Calcutta University’s Hazra Law College students are protesting the Bar Council of India (BCI)-recommended dress code rules that appear to have been implemented by the university, reported the Statesman , with students having written a letter to the university’s vice chancellor that they would not abide by the fashion restrictions.

The Bar Council of India (BCI) noticed the “gradually detracting” (sic) “standard of dresses by the students of law all over the country” and recommended all law colleges to devise their own dress codes “befitting the profession”, but “it would be preferable” if a dress codes of white shirt with white, black or grey trousers was followed.

NLSIU Bangalore professor Dr V Nagaraj, the teacher who was accused by third-year students of criticising a female student for wearing shorts to a lecture and making inappropriate comments, said that contrary to two press reports citing anonymous students and an NLSIU student source quoted anonymously by Legally India yesterday, he had not apologised to the students.

A press release by NLSIU Bangalore vice chancellor Venkata Rao sent to media today, stated that the “concerned professor and the students have amicably resolved the matter between them”.

NLSIU Bangalore professor V Nagaraj allegedly shamed a student on Monday for wearing shorts to his lecture, and allegedly cast aspersions on the student’s character when she objected to the statements of the professor over her attire.
