Exclusive: Around 50 out of 82 NLIU Bhopal students graduating this year participated in the campus recruitment activities, out of whom 31 found employment with recruiters led by Amarchand Mangaldas, two legal process outsourcing (LPO) units, a public sector undertaking, a private company and ICICI Bank.

Exclusive in today’s Mint: Pramod Rao, ICICI Bank’s general counsel (GC) of more than seven years, will join young law firm IndusLaw as an equity partner to set up its Mumbai office.

Exclusive: ICICI Bank general counsel Pramod Rao is due to leave the bank by April end to enter private practice, according to sources close to the company. He will be succeeded by ICICI Ventures head of legal and compliance Sanker Parameswaran.

Corporate recruiter ICICI Bank has increased its basic pay package for new recruiters by almost one and a half lakh rupees taking the basic annual package to 10.5 lakh, as Bharucha & Partners, Juris Corp and Majmudar & Co hiked their fresher pay. Tatva Legal kicked off its first law school recruitment season with packages of Rs 8 lakh.

Khaitan & Co emerged as winner at NLIU Bhopal, winning the signatures of five final-year students on job offers as Trilegal, Lakshmikumaran and Sridharan, ICICI Bank and Pangea3 also turned up to recruit from the law school on the first day of its campus recruitment last week and Amarchand Mangaldas inviting 10 students for interview.

ICICI Bank’s in-house department, which hired 24 campus graduates this year, has increased the salary package of new joiners to Rs 9.05 lakhs per year. This figure includes all benefits that employees receive but lawyers can choose to be paid the amount in full on a retainer basis after six months with the company.

Amarchand Mangaldas is advising ICICI Bank on its takeover of Bank of Rajasthan (BoR), whose promoter Pravin Kumar Tayal is represented by Paras Kuhad Associates, in a stock deal that envisages a share exchange ratio of 25 ICICI shares for 118 BoR shares.

ICICI Bank has recruited six law students from three campuses to start in its in-house team next year and it is set to hire from at least another five law schools soon.

One of Juris Corp’s senior associates has rejoined the firm after a three year stint in-house at ICICI Bank and in the last three months the firm has also taken on six lawyers from law school and two junior lawyers returning after completing LLMs abroad.
